Real Salt Lake loses to regional rival

Colorado’s goal in 70th minute decides first leg of 2025 Rocky Mountain Cup

The host Colorado Rapids beat Real Salt Lake 1-0 in a Major League Soccer match on Saturday night, extending RSL’s winless streak to four games.

Colorado’s Djordje Mihailovic scored the game’s only goal in the 70th minute with an assist from Cole Bassett, as the Rapids won the first leg of this year’s Rocky Mountain Cup rivalry. The teams are scheduled to meet again on Oct. 4 in Sandy.

The loss concluded a three-game week for RSL (4-8-2), which now has two draws and two losses in its past four games.

Real Salt Lake’s Diego Luna was held scoreless for the second straight game. Luna has a team-high seven goals in 13 games this season.

With the victory, Colorado (5-5-4) snapped a five-game winless streak.

Real Salt Lake had an 11-6 advantage on shots, including a 4-3 edge in shots on goal.

Colorado goalkeeper Nico Hansen made four saves, while RSL’s Rafael Cabral stopped two shots.

Real Salt Lake is scheduled to return to action on Saturday, May 24 (7:30 p.m., Apple TV), at home against the first-place Vancouver Whitecaps.
