Real Salt Lake parts ways with defender Adam Henley

Real Salt Lake has parted ways with defender Adam Henley, the club announced Monday.

Henley, who signed with RSL in early January 2018, has not made an appearance yet this season. He played five games last year and started two of them, logging a total of 260 minutes. He totaled just one shot while with Salt Lake.

“We want to thank Adam for his time with the club and wish him the best in his next opportunity,” RSL General Manager Craig Waibel said in a club release. “This move is mutually beneficial as it allows Adam the opportunity to openly seek out a club where he might find more playing time to continue his development and also allows us the roster flexibility to potentially make additions to the squad in the summer.”

RSL’s depth chart is lengthy at the defender position, with Nedum Onuoha, Aaron Herrera, Justen Glad and Donny Toia regularly appearing in the starting lineup with Marcelo Silva, Brooks Lennon and Erik Holt all having played this season on the back line as well. When needed, the team trusts Nick Besler back there as well.

Before his stint in Major League Soccer, Henley played overseas with the Blackburn Rovers at the academy level before rising to the Premier League’s club at just 17 years old in 2011. He played six years there before signing with RSL.
