Week 2 of high school football in Utah caused some drastic movement in the hierarchy across the state. While the Corner Canyon Chargers continued their dominance, other teams jumped several spots — most notably Syracuse and Wasatch.

Other teams dropped quite a few spots, and five previously unranked teams make the list.

Here are The Salt Lake Tribune’s prep football Top 25 power rankings for Week 2.

1. Corner Canyon (2-0)

Previous week: 1

The Chargers extended their winning streak to 42 games with another giant performance. Senior transfer quarterback Devin Brown had three passing touchdowns and scored on a run as well.

2. Lone Peak (2-0)

Previous week: 2

The Knights won a tight game against an Alemany program that has a long and storied history in Southern California.

3. Skyridge (2-0)

Previous week: 7

Behind the big jump for the Falcons this week is their defense has now allowed exactly zero points in their first two games of the season.

4. Orem (2-0)

Previous week: 3

The Tigers shut out a Mountain View team that has suffered two big blowouts to start the season. So far in 2021, Orem hasn’t been truly tested.

5. American Fork (2-0)

Previous week: 8

The Cavemen may have put up 60 points, but did so against a Granger team that was at the bottom of 6A last year.

6. Beaver (2-0)

Previous week: 5

The Beavers stayed undefeated behind a big pick-6 play from Conner Crum and a defense that shut out Grantsville in the first and third quarters.

7. Bingham (2-0)

Previous week: 9

The Battle of the Miners, a name thought of on Sunday, resulted in Bingham successfully excavating 45 pieces of gold (points) and leaving Bishop Manogue from Nevada with just coal (aka zero points).

8 Syracuse (2-0)

Previous week: 16

The mighty, mighty Titans got their second straight victory using tough defense, and it feels like they’re just getting started.

9. Wasatch (2-0)

Previous week: 22

After a close victory over fellow 5A team Park City in Week 1, the Wasps made quick work out of Mountain Crest, not allowing the 4A team a single touchdown.

10. Pine View (2-0)

Previous week: 10

Despite struggling with penalties, the Panthers got a good performance from senior Keith Adams, who rushed for a touchdown and caught one as well.

11. Mountain Ridge (2-0)

Previous week: 23

The newly 6A Sentinels are undefeated with two blowout wins under their belt.

12. Timpview (1-1)

Previous week: 6

Kearns was a very good team in 2020, but Timpview put up 54 points on the Cougars behind a multi-pronged offensive attack.

13. Sky View (2-0)

Previous week: 11

The Bobcats stayed undefeated, but didn’t beat a winless Bonneville team by much.

14. Brighton (1-1)

Previous week: 4

The Bengals’ defense didn’t show up on Saturday against Syracuse, much to the dismay of four-start recruit Lander Barton.

15. Duchesne (2-0)

Previous week: 14

A move down to 1A in football hasn’t stopped the Eagles, who soared past Parowan behind two passing touchdowns from sophomore quarterback Patrick Crum, and rushing TDs from senior Westin Gines (two) and sophomore Cade Gines (one).

16. Logan (2-0)

Previous week: Unranked

The undefeated Grizzlies, who play in 4A, beat up on 3A Juan Diego before narrowly beating 5A Viewmont. So that kind of evens things out.

17. Fremont (1-1)

Previous week: Unranked

Senior Kyle Cotter rushed for a touchdown and returned a kickoff 90 yards for the other one for the Silverwolves’ first win of the season. They lost last week against a top 5 team in Skyridge.

18. Juan Diego (1-1)

Previous week: 12

The 3A team lost against the 4A Logan, 50-21, which is a much more commensurate result compared to last week.

19. Pleasant Grove (1-1)

Previous week: Unranked

The Vikings lost to a ranked team last week and eked out a win against another ranked team, Maple Mountain, by shutting out the Golden Eagles in the second half. After their first win, they get a spot on the list.

20. Maple Mountain (1-1)

Previous week: 17

Not even a three-touchdown performance from junior running back Jaxson Denton could prevent the narrow loss to Pleasant Grove.

21. Roy (1-1)

Previous week: 20

The Royals managed only one field goal against Fremont after putting up 57 points against last week against Jordan.

22. Layton Christian (2-0)

Previous week: 21

The Eagles not only blew out an opponent for the second straight week, but also have already surpassed their win total of 2020 after just two games.

23. Hurricane (2-0)

Previous week: 24

Junior quarterback Carter Ashby threw for four touchdowns and 163 yards, while senior running back Levi Grondel punched into rushing TDs in a resounding win over American Leadership Academy.

24. Payson (2-0)

Previous week: Unranked

The 5A Lions have started the season undefeated, but are being docked a bit for beating up on teams two classifications lower in North Sanpete and Canyon View.

25. Timpanogos (2-0)

Previous week: Unranked

The 5A Timberwolves so far have about as easy a schedule as Payson (2A Millard followed by 3A Grand County), but they won both games, so they deserve a mention.
