Prep sports: This week’s standout performers and key numbers

Each week, the TribPreps staff will choose standout performers and key numbers from the previous week’s action in Utah and showcase them. Here are this week’s picks.

Mickie Mills

The Maple Mountain senior batted .538 with six RBIs and eight runs scored in the Golden Eagles softball team’s three wins this week. She went 1 for 4 in Tuesday’s 7-5 win over Wasatch then 3 for 4 with three runs scored in Wednesday’s 9-6 decision over Payson. She capped her week with three hits, including a pair of homers, in a 20-0 victory over Provo on Thursday. She also delivered in the circle. She struck out 10 over five innings in the win over Provo and seven over 4 1/3 innings in the Payson game. She is batting .552 with 29 runs scored and 24 RBIs this season.

Mia Cullimore

The Davis senior flashed a hot bat in helping the Darts softball team finish the week 4-2. She finished the week 9 of 16 with a homer and two triples while driving in 10 runs. She went 2 for 2 — a double and homer — and knocked in five runs in Thursday’s 12-1 win over Northridge. It was the second time this season she drove in five runs in a game. She raised her batting average to .464 this season.

Austin Deming

The Snow Canyon senior broke the school record with his 16th career home run in Tuesday’s 11-0 win over Hurricane in baseball action. He added to that record with another round-tripper in Friday’s 7-1 victory over Hurricane. He finished the week 6 for 7 with six runs scored and three RBIs in the two games. He’s batting .515 with 30 runs scored, seven homers and 24 RBIs.

Annie Rowlan

The Morgan sophomore was a three-event winner at Wednesday’s Region 13 meet. She took first in the 100 meters (13.44 seconds), 200 (28.16) and 400 (1:05.98).

The number of inches that Skyridge’s William Denison beat Lone Peak’s Sam Beckwith by in the boys’ long jump at Friday’s Skyridge Spring Classic. Denison jumped 21 feet, 5.25 inches to Beckwith’s 21-5.

The number of extra-base hits for Copper Hills junior McKenzie Bergener in the Grizzlies’ two softball games this week. She belted two triples and a double in Tuesday’s 16-14 win over Herriman before adding a double in Thursday’s 9-4 setback vs. Taylorsville.

The number of hits in 14 at-bats for Summit Academy senior Gerritt Vander Linden in baseball action. He finished 3 for 4 with three RBIs in Monday’s 13-12 slugfest win over Manti then batted a perfect 4 for 4 in Friday’s 11-5 win over Morgan. He added a hit in four at-bats in Thursday’s 14-2 win over Morgan but went 0 for 2 in Wednesday’s 10-0 victory vs. Morgan. He raised his average to .440 with 16 RBIs and 14 runs scored this season.
