St. George • South Sevier just keeps winning.

The Rams won their ninth consecutive game to advance to Saturday’s Class 3A state championship game.

Tyson Chisholm scored a game-high 15 points and added eight rebounds to lead South Sevier to a thrilling 64-58 victory over Delta on Friday night in the Burns Arena.

“I’m so proud of our team and for all of our guys who stepped up tonight,” South Sevier coach Rhet Parsons said. “It was a battle, but they were able to close it out.”

The Rams took a double-digit lead into the fourth quarter but nearly gave it away as Delta came storming back with several big runs to cut the deficit to 60-58 with just under a minute to play.

But Chisholm came up with a huge offensive rebound to seal the deal as the Rams advanced to the championship game.

“Tyson is a warrior and came up huge for us tonight,” Parsons said. “It was fitting that he was the one that got the offensive rebound there at the end of the game to close the game out for us.”

Despite needing 10 stitches and breaking his teammate’s nose in a nasty collision at the end of the third quarter, Chisholm ran out of the tunnel eager to help his teammates as the Rams’ 12-point lead continued to shrink.

“I couldn’t wait to get back in the game,” Chisholm said. “They numbed me up pretty good and then it felt like forever as they were stitching me up. As soon as they said I was good, I ran as fast as I could back to the bench so I could get back in the game.”

As Chisholm made his way out to the court, fans cheered loudly and rose to their feet. The junior didn’t disappoint as he picked up where he left off to lead the Rams to victory.

The game started as a shootout. The teams combined for 17 3-pointers in the game.

Chisholm knocked down three, Brodee Tebbs, Easton Hunt and Caleb Barton each had two in the win. The trio all scored 14 points and combined for 14 rebounds and four assists. The combined to go 12 of 13 from the foul line.

“We have so many weapons on offense, it’s insane. I don’t think I’ve led the team in scoring all year, either,” Chisholm said.

Delta was led by Derek Smith and Jaymen Brough, who had 15 points apiece. Smith flirted with a triple-double, finishing with nine rebounds to go with seven assists.
