Monticello claims first state wrestling team title since 2014

Eight Monticello wrestlers claimed Class 1A state championships Saturday to help the Buckaroos cruise to the team state title.

Steven Robinson claimed the 132-pound title at the Sevier Valley Center in overtime. He scored the 4-2 win over teammate Zach Cecil.

Monticello’s Zac Musselman took home the 145 title by pinning Piute’s Reese Fautin in 3 minutes, 46 seconds in the title match. Brayson Wilcox also won a state title with a pin for the Buckaroos, taking down Wayne’s Luke Dahl in 4:31 at 160.

Gage Wilcox wrapped up the Monticello champions by pin when he defeated Rich’s Wyatt Weston in 1:19 at 195.

Panguitch finished second with 142 points. Kaden Beckstead (120) and Zackary Julander (138) earned championships for the Bobcats.
