After repeating as the boys’ champion in the 200-yard freestyle Thursday, Bunnell had some unfinished business in the longest race of the meet. In the 500 freestyle, an event in which he finished second in 2017, he cruised to victory with a 10-second gap over Lone Peak’s Jake Mickelson.

Allie Hill, American Fork

The Cavemen got their single race victory from a freshman en route to the girls’ team title. The ninth-grader won a three-way battle with Kearns’ Keely Christenot and Brigham’s Lindsey Young in the 500 freestyle. Hill also added to the American Fork point total by placing second in the 200 freestyle.

Brian Christofferson, Cyprus

Christofferson made a bit of a mark in the Class 4A state meet last year , finishing sixth in both the 200 individual medley and 100 freestyle as a junior. His impact as a senior was much deeper. After winning the 50 freestyle Thursday, he came back on the final day to capture the title in the 100 freestyle.

Finishing time for Kearns junior Lily Plaudis in winning the 100 breaststroke. The result was the only one at the meet that gained all-American consideration for the participant. Denton Anderson of Westlake, who took the boys’ 100 breaststroke, also had an all-American consideration qualifying time, but his finals time of 57.34 was just above the mark.

The number of Class 6A state records set during the meet. Since the classification didn’t exist before this year, the words “a new state record” rang out early and often during the two-day event.
