How severe is the injury to star BYU WR Chase Roberts? Here is what Kalani Sitake said.
Sitake gives update on Chase Roberts’ injury.
(Bethany Baker | The Salt Lake Tribune) Brigham Young Cougars quarterback Bear Bachmeier (47) and wide receiver Chase Roberts (2) during a game in Provo earlier this season.
Cincinnati • BYU star receiver Chase Roberts only lasted one half in the Cougars’ win over the Bearcats on Saturday night.
The senior recorded one catch for 11 yards before he left with a reported hamstring injury.
Head coach Kalani Sitake said Roberts took himself out of the game.
“I think he was just making a smart decision to take himself out and let the other guys do it,” Sitake said. “He didn’t feel like he was going to be effective. And so I appreciate him making that decision for the team.”
Sitake doesn’t believe the injury is severe. Roberts was walking around in street clothes in the second half.
“I think he’ll be back. We’ll see,” Sitake said.
BYU plays UCF this weekend to clinch a spot in the Big 12 title game. The Cougars will be heavy favorites against a five-win team at home.
If BYU wins, it will play in Arlington in two weeks. That would give Roberts an extra 14 days to recover.
