BYU eliminated from Big 12 title contention

With Arizona State and Iowa State both winning on Saturday, the Cougars won’t be going to Arlington.

(Bethany Baker | The Salt Lake Tribune) Brigham Young Cougars head coach Kalani Sitake speaks with a referee during the game against the Kansas Jayhawks in Provo on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2024.

BYU’s Big 12 title hopes have been dashed.

The Cougars entered Saturday needing a win over Houston and help from either the Arizona or Kansas State Wildcats to sneak into the conference championship game.

But the Sun Devils stomped their in-state rival, 49-7, on Saturday afternoon to punch their own ticket to Arlington.

Kansas State kept things closer against Iowa State, but ultimately fell to the Cyclones, 29-21.

BYU’s eventual victory over Houston eliminated the Colorado Buffaloes from the title race. Arizona State and Iowa State will face off in the Big 12 championship game.
