BYU has beaten Utah for one of the top-rated recruits in the state.

Bountiful High safety Faletau Satuala, the No. 3 recruit in the Class of 2024, told a national television audience on Saturday that he’s headed to Provo.

Coach Jay Hill is just doing something special,” Satuala said while making his selection live during the All-American Bowl in San Antonio. “Really great guy. I love being around him.”

The four-star recruit said he hoped to play both sides of the ball for the Cougars.

He picked BYU over Utah, UCLA and others.

“The whole team, the players, I just really love being around all of them,” he said.

This is the first time BYU has received a commitment from a top three composite player in the state out of high school since 2017. It was an important in-state recruiting victory after the Utes got commitments from three of the top five prospects in Utah — offensive lineman Isaiah Garcia (Corner Canyon), quarterback Isaac Wilson (Corner Canyon) and safety Davis Andrews (American Fork).
