Report: BYU may add Texas State to 2020 schedule
(Francisco Kjolseth | The Salt Lake Tribune) Athletic directors Mark Harlan, left, from the University of Utah and Tom Holmoe from BYU join other athletic directors from from around the state at the U. of U. as Senator Mitt Romney talks about ways to increase the compensation to student athletes on Friday, Nov. 15, 2019. Romney has been putting pressure on the NCAA to allow athletes to make money off of their likeness or for appearances.
While the news of BYU’s latest schedule addition hasn’t simmered down, the rumor mill is back up and running again. This time, it looks like there could be a cat fight.
The Cougars could go up against the Texas State Bobcats from San Marcos, Texas.
According to Keff Ciardello, Texas State football beat reporter for the Austin Statesman, BYU is one of the teams Texas State is looking to replace one of its lost games this upcoming season. Ciardello said it’s “a done deal,” pointing out a potential Oct. 3 match-up.
The details of the possible game are still unavailable, but it would increase the Cougars’ schedule to six games.
BYU most recently penned an agreement with Army, taking on the Black Knights Sept. 19 at West Point, after starting the season at Navy on Labor Day.
The Cougars also have games scheduled against Troy, Houston and North Alabama this season.
Should the Texas State game become official, it will be the first time both programs meet.
