The Salt Lake Bees salvaged a series split with an 8-6 win over the Las Vegas 51s on Monday night at Smith's Ballpark. The game marked the first sellout of the season for the Bees, with an announced 14,511 in attendance. The Bees have either won or tied their past eight straight four-game series.
Cesar Puello and Dustin Ackley had three hits apiece, and both hit two-run homers as the Bees rallied from a 3-0 deficit. Puello has hit three home runs in his past four games and has collected at least one RBI in eight of his past nine games. Shane Robinson registered his sixth straight multihit game.
Turning Point • The Bees, who trailed by three runs in the second inning, rallied to tie the score in the fourth. They took their first lead of the night when Robinson scored from third on C.J Cron's sacrifice fly in the fifth. The Bees led the rest of the game.
Bees MVP • Ackley went 3 for 4 with two runs scored, two RBIs, a double and a home run.
Hidden Hero • C.J. Cron went 0 for 2, but he had a walk, a run scored and two RBIs on a pair of sacrifice flies.
Quoteworthy • "We know that every series that we've had we've been successful," Ackley said. "A lot of these teams are good teams, but we're been able to at least scratch out two wins maybe when we don't have out best series and win three or four when we do. I think that's just a credit to our pitching and the amount of runs we're able to put up every night."
Angel Angle • The Los Angeles Angels announced that pitcher Matt Shoemaker is scheduled to make a rehab appearance for High-A Inland Empire and go three to four innings or 45-50 pitches. Thea team also announced that star center fielder Mike Trout will not participate in the Major League Baseball All-Star game this month. Trout will work out with Inland Empire until he is ready to begin a rehab assignment with that club.
History lesson • The Bees improved to a perfect 7-0 on home Monday games this season and have won five consecutive games on Mondays.
What's next • The Bees will play their next six games on the road leading into the Triple-A All-Star break. They'll begin a series at Fresno on Tuesday at 8:05 p.m. MDT.
