The Game • Kyle Kubitza hit a two-run homer and Efren Navarro extended his hitting streak to 10 games Friday night as Salt Lake scored a 6-5 Pacific Coast League victory over Reno. In front of 7,961 fans at Smith's Ballpark, the Bees won consecutive games for only the second time since May 23-24.
Turning Point • The Bees scored five runs with two out in the second, when they wiped out a 2-0 deficit. Kubitza's homer highlighted the inning, after Roger Kieschnick kept it going with an RBI single. Later, Kaleb Cowart also drove in a run with a base hit - his 25th RBI since being called up June 11.
Bees MVP • Salt Lake starter Drew Rucinski allowed four hits in the first inning, when a double play helped prevent Reno from scoring more than two runs. But Rucinski settled down, gave up one hit over the next 4 1/3 innings and enabled the Bees to rally.
Hidden Hero • With two on and out one in the top of the sixth, Frank Hermann replaced Rucinski. He quickly got Reno's Peter O'Brien to bounce into an inning-ending double play. Then, he retired the side in order in the seventh.
Flashing Leather • Reno center fielder Todd Glaesmann has been outstanding in this series. In the first inning, he raced straight back and made a leaping catch on Kubitza's long drive to the warning track, preventing at least a double.
Angel Angle • For the third time this season, the Angels recalled infielder-outfielder Grant Green. In 278 at-bats for the Bees, he is hitting .288 with two homers and 22 RBIs. To make room for Green, L.A. sent down relief pitcher Vinnie Pestano.
History Lesson • On July 17, 2009, pitchers Brad Salmon and Bobby Mosebach combined on a four-hitter as Salt Lake won at Portland, 2-0. Terry Evans and Sean Rodriguez hit solo homers for the Bees.
What's Next • Reno (Jhoulys Chacin, 2-2) vs. Salt Lake (Adam Wilk, 3-7), Saturday, 7:05 p.m. TV: none. Radio: 1280-AM.
