A baseball team from Utah County is one win away from a trip to the Little League World Series.

The Lone Peak Little League team beat Wyoming 10-0 on Thursday afternoon to advance to the Mountain Region’s championship game on Friday afternoon in San Bernardino, Calif.

“Cliche as it sounds, it’s been a dream come true for the community, for the league — and certainly for the boys," head coach Mike Robertson told Fox 13 prior to Thursday’s game.

Lone Peak will play Summerlin, Nev., on Friday at 3 p.m. MT. The game will be shown on ESPN.

On Thursday, Lone Peak’s win was fueled by Benson Gunn, who hit a pair of three-run homers before the mercy rule ended the contest.

Friday’s game will be a rematch against a Nevada team that beat Lone Peak earlier in the week. The Utah team led 12-3 at one point, but ended up losing 22-12.

“I’m so excited to get Nevada again and have a rematch,” Gunn said on the ESPN broadcast after Thursday’s win. “They’ve got some good pitchers, but we’ve got some good hitters. It’ll be a fun game.”

Robertson added that Lone Peak is the first northern Utah team to represent the state in the regionals since Taylorsville in 2004. In 2022, a team from Snow Canyon became the first team from Utah to ever advance to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
