Bryson DeChambeau is eating Utah’s Bonneville Salt Flats

DeChambeau made a trip to Utah before he defends his title at the US Open next week.

Bryson DeChambeau is trying to become the first golfer to win back-to-back US Opens since 2018.

And he is using a bit of Utah to fuel himself along the way.

Bryson DeChambeau took a detour to Utah for a helicopter ride and some souvenirs recently. The LIV Golf star traveled to the Bonneville Salt Flats for a day of filming videos. As a parting gift, he scooped up some salt, took it home, and is now using it in his kitchen for some extra flavor.

“I literally picked up salt from the salt flats and had it at my house. I’m using it for some of the meals. I’m literally using it, which is really cool,” DeChambeau said this week.

Bucked Up, a Provo-based company, partnered with DeChambeau and invited him to the state last month. They rented a helicopter and flew him over the mountains. DeChambeau teed off from the tips of a peak and in the barren flats.

“Finding a helicopter and going to the salt flats in Utah was really fun,” he said.

Utah wasn’t DeChambeau’s only extracurricular trip before he heads to Pennsylvania to defend his title next week. He went to the Indy 500 and raced a lap around the track and visited the White House, where he hit balls off the South Lawn.

“If I’m hitting the ball really well, I’m focused on some side quests,” he said.

And he has been playing well of late. DeChambeau was in the final pairing at the Masters and finished second at the PGA Championship this year. He is the third-best golfer in the world, according to DataGolf, behind Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy.

DeChambeau beat McIlroy at the US Open last year to claim his second major championship.

Now he will head to golf’s third major of the year, primed with some Utah salt to season his meals.

“I’ve been doing some fun side quests,” he said. “There is no doubt.”
