The X Games are coming to Salt Lake City.

The extreme sports league will host its Moto X, BMX and skateboarding events at the Utah State Fairpark this summer. It will take place on June 27-29 with tickets going on sale next month.

Ryan Sheckler, an X Games gold medal-winning skateboarder, said he is looking forward to coming back to Salt Lake to compete.

“You guys support sports and we are excited to come out and put on a great show,” he said. “We want to really be accessible to the children and fans who show up to the events.”

It is the 30th anniversary of X Games and event leaders expect thousands of fans will be in attendance.

“If you look at some of our previous events, we’ve sold thousands of tickets,” CEO Jeremy Bloom said. “We will see the world’s best BMX riders. The world’s best skateboarders. The world’s best X athletes. Every athlete you see, male and female, are truly the best in the world.”

Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall said the event shows the growth of entertainment in the heart of the city.

“It is a phenomenal time to be a Salt Laker, even better time to be a sports fan in Salt Lake City,” she said. “Just seven months ago, we were excited about the decision that we get to welcome the Olympics Winter Games in 2034.

“We have done our part to secure the Utah Jazz and the new NHL [team] for the next 30 years in downtown. We are looking at a revitalization of the sports entertainment culture with an incredible focus on what makes Salt Lake City so special, a big part of which is our passion for recreation.”

Salt Lake County May Jenny Wilson also welcomed the X Games, saying, “Salt Lake County has long been a hub for outdoor adventure and action sports.”

The event will be broadcast on ESPN and ABC with a streaming option on ROKU.
