College basketball Top 25: BYU gets leaped by Utah State in the national rankings

Utah State men are in, while Utah women held their position in the Associated Press polls.

A chapter in BYU’s Cinderella story has closed.

The Cougars dropped out of the Associated Press Top 25 men’s basketball poll Monday, leaving them unranked for the first time since November.

They are on the cusp of getting back in, though, with the most votes received of the unranked teams.

BYU beat No. 15 Baylor (then No. 11) on Tuesday, then lost to Kansas State on the road on Saturday. That brought the Cougars’ record to 19-8 overall and 7-7 in the Big 12.

As of Monday, BYU’s NET ranking is 13.

Utah State made an appearance back in the Top 25 at No. 22 after being unranked last week. The Aggies beat No. 20 San Diego State (then No. 19) on Tuesday.

The Utah women’s team held its position at No. 18, and is now No. 7 in NET. The Utes were blown out by No. 8 UCLA (then No. 12) on the road and turned around to beat No. 7 USC.
