Weber State runners are getting an Olympic boost.
After a year coaching at the University of Missouri, Olympian Lindsey Anderson is returning to her alma mater as an assistant coach for the Wildcats track and cross country programs.
“I am so excited for the opportunity to return to Weber State,” Anderson said in a news release. “Weber has always been a special place for me and I am thrilled to be returning to where my story began.”
Anderson became the first Weber State student-athlete to ever qualify for the Summer Olympics when she finished second in steeplechase at the 2008 U.S. Olympic trials. She competed in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Beijing games.
Anderson is a member of the Weber State Hall of Fame and will be inducted into the Big Sky Hall of Fame this month. The Morgan native won six individual conference championships and three relay titles during her time as a Wildcat.
“We are thrilled to have Lindsey returning home to coach at Weber State,” Weber women’s track and field and cross country head coach Paul Pilkington said in a statement. “She was a phenomenal athlete and has also proven herself as one of the best young distance coaches in the country. To leave a Power 5 program to return to Weber State is fantastic for us and we are really excited to have her back.”
Anderson spent last season at Missouri. She spent the five seasons prior at the College of Southern Idaho, where she restarted the program after a 19-year hiatus.
“Lindsey has incredible experience as an athlete and as a coach and we are so excited for the strengths that she will bring to our programs,” said WSU men’s head coach Corbin Talley. “It’s great to have her back coaching at Weber State.”
