The Layton Christian Academy football team was just 30 minutes away from arriving at Enterprise High for its 2A playoff game scheduled for Friday when it got the call.
One of the Eagles players tested positive for COVID-19.
Due to having a roster of only 20, the difficult decision had to be made. So the bus turned around and went back home.
Layton Christian forfeited its playoff game, ending a 1-8 season that saw Eagles ranked last in the RPI among 2A schools. Jared Miller, who is the principal of seventh through 12th grade at Layton Christian, told The Salt Lake Tribune that only one player on the team tested positive, but two others are awaiting test results.
The decision to forfeit the game, Miller said, came out of extreme caution.
“We don’t want potentially infect or spread the virus to Enterprise High School,” Miller said.
Kearns, Fremont and Uintah forfeited games this week due to positive cases within their teams.
