Provo • A BYU linebacker was arrested Saturday on suspicion of DUI after police found containers of alcohol and a THC vape pen in his vehicle.

A Utah County Sheriff’s Office deputy pulled over Chaz Kapuni Ah You, 21, after pacing Ah You going 75 in a 35 mph zone. The arresting deputy also noted that Ah You was following too closely to other vehicles on the road and was making unsafe lane travel, changing lanes abruptly without signaling.

After the deputy initiated the stop in Eagle Mountain, he made contact with the driver, who identified himself as Ah You and provided his Utah Drivers license.

“Based on the reckless driving pattern I observed, Chaz was placed under arrest and an inventory search of the vehicle was performed along with the vehicle being impounded,” the deputy said in his arrest report.

During the search, the deputy discovered two containers of alcohol — one with “a consumable amount” and the other empty — and found a THC vape pen in the center console, which led the Ah You being investigated for a DUI.

Because of weather, the deputy opted to perform the field sobriety test at the Utah Hail, where Forensics collected blood and urine analysis. During the HGN test, Ah You displayed four clues of Nystagmus going both ways and during the one-legged stand. Ah You then struggled on counting to 30 twice, according to the report.

Ah You was transported to the Utah County Jail, where he was to be charged with DUI, reckless driving, unsafe lane travel, speeding and open container.

Ah You, who played at Westlake and Timpview high schools, played for the Cougars in 2017 and 2019. During his time at BYU, Ah You has made 40 tackles, one sack, one interception, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and three pass breakups.

A BYU official said they “are aware of the situation and are looking into it.”
