State colleges: BYU women down Utah Valley, 71-57

Brenna Chase Drollinger scored a game-high 19 points, including five 3-pointers, and added seven rebounds to lead the BYU women’s basketball team to a 71-57 victory over Utah Valley on Saturday afternoon at the Marriott Center in Provo.

Shalae Salmon finished with 14 points and six rebounds for the Cougars (4-4), who snapped a three-game losing streak. Paisley Johnson had 11 points and a team-leading six assists. Maria Albiero contributed 10 points, five assists and five rebounds, and Sara Hamson had a game-high five blocks.

Maria Carvalho paced the Wolverines (1-8) with 10 points and nine rebounds. Eve Braslis and Megan Jensen scored nine points each.

BYU shot a season-best 52% from the field, including a season-high 61% from 3-point range, going 11 of 18 from distance.

Next up, BYU heads to Hawaii for the Maui Jim Maui Classic on Wednesday and Thursday.

Utah Valley travels to Ogden on Tuesday for a 5 p.m. matchup with Weber State.

Men’s basketball

Northern Arizona 79, Utah Valley 73 • In Orem, Casdon Jardine scored a game-high 17 points and Isaiah White added 16 for the Wolverines (4-8) in a loss to the Lumberjacks (5-2) at the UCCU Center.

Trey Woodbury recorded his first career double-double with 14 points and a career-high 10 rebounds for Utah Valley. Emmanuel Olojakpoke was also in double figures with 12 points while adding six boards and two blocks.

Chris Bowling led Northern Arizona with 16 points.
