The University of Utah women’s basketball team posted a 61-52 win over the Texas Southern Tigers in the Bank of Hawaii Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii, on Friday.
The Utes (2-3) trailed in the game for only 28 seconds. Utah shot 42% from the floor while holding the Tigers to 34% shooting.
Utah forced 18 turnovers in the game, but the Utes’ 26 turnovers committed allowed Texas Southern to keep things close down the stretch.
“I would rather win ugly than lose pretty,” Utah coach Lynne Roberts said. “I thought we had a great first 16 minutes, and then the last four minutes of the first half we got were turning it over and we were a little sloppy and that allowed Texas Southern to gain some confidence with what they were doing defensively.”
Utah’s Brynna Maxwell finished with a team-high 15 points and Lola Pendande added 14 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
