State colleges: No. 12 BYU women’s volleyball team tops No. 2 Stanford

The No. 12 BYU women’s volleyball team defeated No. 2 Stanford 3-1 (18-25, 25-22, 25-23, 31-29) at Maples Pavilion in Stanford, Calif., on Saturday, besting the defending champion Cardinal for the second consecutive season.

Senior McKenna Miller had 18 kills and two aces for the Cougars (9-2), who handed Stanford its first home loss since November 2016. Freshman Kate Grimmer and sophomore Heather Gneiting added 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Freshman Whitney Bower added 48 assists, 18 digs, three kills and an ace.

Senior Mary Lake had 15 digs, 10 assists and an ace. Junior Taylen Ballard-Nixon entered the match in set three and came up big with seven kills and three blocks.

Tucker’s hat trick boosts BYU women

A hat trick by junior Cameron Tucker helped lift the seventh-ranked BYU women’s soccer team to a 5-0 win over Kansas State on Saturday night.

Tucker is the first Cougar to score three goals in a game since Ashley Hatch against San Francisco in 2016.

Junior Mikayla Colohan and freshman Kendall Petersen also scored for the Cougars (8-0).
