State colleges: Utah volleyball serves up 8th win in a row

The No. 16 University of Utah volleyball team improved to 8-0 on the season with a four-set victory — 20-25, 25-22, 25-23, 25-13 — over Pepperdine at the Pepperdine Classic in Malibu, Calif.

The Utes’ Berkeley Oblad picked up her 400th career block, becoming the 13th player in program history to reach that mark. Dani Drews led Utah with 18 kills while adding four blocks and five digs.

Phoebe Grace was a monster at the net for the Utes, finishing with 10 blocks and six kills. Saige Ka’aha’aina-Torres had 46 assists, six digs and four blocks, while Brianna Doehrmann had a match-high 10 digs.

No. 13 BYU falls to No. 3 Texas

No. 13 BYU fell 3-1 to No. 3 Texas — 23-25, 25-22, 25-19, 25-18 — at the Shocker Volleyball Classic in Wichita, Kan.

McKenna Miller had 15 kills, five digs and three blocks for BYU (6-2) and Madelyn Robinson added 13 kills and eight digs. In the middle, Heather Gneiting recorded 10 kills and seven digs, while Kennedy Eschenberg had nine kills and four blocks.

Goals by Jessica Hixon and Holly Daugirda lifted the Utes (4-3) to a 2-0 victory over the Wolf Pack (1-5).
