Real Salt Lake owner Dell Loy Hansen has made a sizable purchase, but it has nothing to do with soccer.

Hansen, through an intermediary, bought a 125-year-old silver United States dime, one of only nine of its kind. The owner and Salt Lake City real estate mogul spent upwards of $1.3 million for the coin.

John Brush, president of David Lawrence Rare Coins of Virginia Beach, bought the 1894 coin at an auction in Chicago in Thursday. Brush bought out on behalf of Hansen.

“This was one of the most exciting acquisitions we have made in the pursuit of Mr. Hansen’s collection,” Brush said in a news release.

Hansen will publicly exhibit the coin, and plans for doing so will be announced “in the near future,” Brush said.
