Sky View boys’ soccer tops defending champ Desert Hills to claim 4A title

The Sky View High boys’ soccer team pulled an upset Saturday at Rio Tinto Stadium by beating defending champion Desert Hills High 1-0 to claim the Class 4A title.

The Bobcats sealed their victory in the 64th minute when Cole Thedell found himself in the right place at the right time after a shot and put away the rebound opportunity. Sky View defended the rest of the way to become the only team all season to hold Desert Hills scoreless.

Sky View lost in the first round of the 4A tournament last season, while Desert Hills claimed the title. But this season, the Bobcats shut out their opponent in three consecutive rounds en route to the championship.

Before the final round, Desert Hills had scored a total of 11 goals in the playoffs.
