Jazz offer free tickets to furloughed federal employees

(Scott Sommerdorf | The Salt Lake Tribune) Jazz fans react as more than one disputed foul call went against the Jazz down the stretch. The Rockets beat the Jazz 100-87, Sunday, May 6, 2018.

Times are tough for federal employees due to the government shutdown, but the Utah Jazz are trying to make things a little bit better.

The Jazz are offering a limited number of free tickets to Friday’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves to furloughed federal employees who are missing paychecks during the shutdown. The tickets were donated by season ticket holders and Jazz employees.

They’re also offering a greater number of SLC Stars tickets for free, to the games at Bruin Arena on the campus of Salt Lake Community College on Friday and Monday against the Long Island Nets and Oklahoma City Blue.

Jazz tickets — two per federal employee — will be available for pickup from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the Vivint Arena box office, while Stars tickets — four per federal employee — can be picked up beginning at 5 p.m. from the Bruin Arena box office. Employees will need to show an identification card to prove eligibility.
