South Summit wins its second straight 2A football championship, Milford claims its second consecutive 1A football title and Summit Academy wins its first 3A crown

The South Summit Wildcats capped their season with another 2A state championship on Saturday. The 'Cats knocked off Grand 50-25 for their second consecutive state crown.

The Wildcats held a 38-13 lead at halftime. Quarterback Kael Atkinson have three passing touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns in the first 24 minutes alone.

The two teams met in the 2A semifinals last season. The Wildcats won that game to advance to the finals, where they beat Beaver.

Milford 45, Duchesne 14

The Milford High School football team capped its undefeated season with a second-consecutive Class 1A state championship, dispatching the Duchesne Eagles 45-14 on Saturday at Weber State University.

Milford opened with a 12-0 opening quarter, and followed that with a 20-0 second quarter for an insurmountable halftime lead. The Eagles scored all of their points in the final quarter.

It was the ninth time in the past 12 games that the Tigers scored at least 40 points.

Summit Academy 55, North Sanpete 18

After a crushing one-point double-overtime loss in last year’s semifinals, the Bears made things right with a win over the Hawks to take the 3A state championship.

Kasey Briggs threw two touchdown passes to Astchyn Brady in the first half alone en route to a 28-0 halftime lead for the Bears. North Sanpete scored twice in a row after that, but Summit Academy pulled away late in the second quarter.

Summit Academy’s Talmage Brown scored two touchdowns, one of which came on an 81-yard kickoff return.

The Hawks made the championship game after going 0-10 last season. They were the first team in Utah to accomplish the feat. Saturday’s title game was the first-ever in North Sanpete’s 103-year history.
