Top 25 basketball: Kansas escapes with victory over Baylor

Waco, Texas • Landen Lucas made two free throws with 11 seconds left and No. 3 Kansas grabbed a stranglehold on the Big 12 race with a 67-65 win over No. 4 Baylor.

The Jayhawks (24-3, 12-2) have a three-game lead in the Big 12 standings over Baylor with four games to play. With one more win, Kansas will match the UCLA teams of the 1960s and '70s by winning its 13th consecutive conference championship. Baylor (22-5, 9-5) had one more chance, but Manu Lecomte missed on a shot.

Frank Mason III had 23 points for the Jayhawks.

No. 1 Gonzaga 82, Pacific 61 • In Spokane, Wash., Nigel Williams-Goss had 18 points and seven assists as Gonzaga (28-0, 16-0 West Coast) beat Pacific (10-19, 4-12) to remain the only undefeated team in Division I.

No. 2 Villanova 92, Seton Hall 70 • In Newark, N.J., Jalen Brunson had 22 points and a career-high 10 assists and Villanova (26-2, 13-2) clinched a tie for an unprecedented fourth straight Big East Conference regular-season title.

No. 8 Louisville 94, Virginia Tech 90 • In Louisville, Ky., Donovan Mitchell scored 26 points to lead Louisville against Virginia Tech (18-8, 7-7 Atlantic Coast Conference).

Ty Outlaw hit a 3-pointer with 8 seconds left to cut Louisville's lead to 91-88, but the Hokies' Zach LeDay committed an intentional foul on Louisville as the Cardinals (22-5, 10-4 Atlantic Coast Conference) tried to inbound the ball. Jaylen Johnson made one of the two free throws, then Mitchell made two more with 5.6 seconds left to seal the win.

No. 9 West Virginia 83, Texas Tech 74, 2 OT • In Morgantown, W.Va., Jevon Carter scored a season-high 24 points to lead West Virginia (21-6, 9-5 Big 12).

No. 10 North Carolina 65, No. 14 Virginia 41 • In Chapel Hill, N.C., Justin Jackson scored 20 points to help North Carolina (23-5, 11-3) beat Virginia (18-8, 8-6), keeping the Tar Heels alone in first in the ACC.

No. 13 Kentucky 82, Georgia 77 • In Athens, Ga., De'Aaron Fox scored 16 points, including six free throws in the final 45 seconds, and Kentucky (22-5, 12-2 Southeastern Conference) overcame J.J. Frazier's 36 points to beat Georgia.

No. 12 Duke 99, Wake Forest 94 • In Durham, N.C., Luke Kennard scored 23 points and Jayson Tatum added 19 for Duke (22-5, 10-4 ACC).

No. 15 Florida 57, Mississippi State. 52 • In Starkville, Miss., Chris Chiozza scored 14 points and KeVaughn Allen added 11 for Florida (22-5, 12-2 Southeastern Conference).

No. 16 Purdue 80, Michigan St. 63 • In West Lafayette, Ind., Caleb Swanigan had 24 points and 15 rebounds, and Isaac Haas scored 18 points for Purdue (22-5, 11-3 Big Ten).

Pittsburgh 80, No. 17 Florida St. 66 • In Pittsburgh, Sheldon Jeter scored a career-high 29 points for Pittsburgh (15-12, 4-10 ACC).

No. 18 Cincinnati 80, Tulsa 60 • In Cincinnati, Jacob Evans III scored 13 of his 17 points while Cincinnati (24-3, 13-1 American Athletic) took control in the first half.

No. 19 SMU 76, Houston 66 • In Houston, Semi Ojeleye had 18 of his 22 points in the second half for SMU (24-4, 14-1 American).

Vanderbilt 71, No. 21 South Carolina 62 • In Nashville, Tenn., Matthew Fisher-Davis scored 17 points to help Vanderbilt beat South Carolina.

No. 25 Notre Dame 81, N.C. State 72 • In Raleigh, N.C., V.J. Beachem scored 27 points and hit a career-high seven 3-pointers for Notre Dame (21-7,10-5 ACC) in N.C. State's first game since the announcement that coach Mark Gottfried is out after the season.
