‘Outdoor Boys’ YouTuber joins advisory council for the LDS Church

An executive producer of “The Chosen” is also among 14 named to Young Men panel.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced Tuesday that 14 men have been named as advisers to assist a three-member presidency who lead the global faith’s program for teenage boys.

Members of this newly appointed Young Men General Advisory Council include several church employees, three Brigham Young University faculty members, an executive producer of the “The Chosen” TV series, even a retiring YouTuber whose family-friendly outdoors shows amassed more than 18 million subscribers.

Luke J. Nichols created “Outdoor Boys,” which gained widespread popularity since the channel’s inception in 2015. Nichols announced his decision to step away from YouTube in May earlier this year, saying the demands of increasing fame were too much for him and his family.

Nichols earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from church-owned BYU and a law degree from George Mason University.

Here are the other 13 members of the advisory council:

Agbor T. Agbor • Born in Nigeria, he is the president of Utah Water Systems LLC.

Derral E. Eves • Co-founder and executive producer of the television series “The Chosen,” he serves on Southern Utah University’s board of trustees.

Daniel E. Mendoza García • Born in Mexico, he earned an associate degree in industrial engineering and has worked at various companies in the production industry.

John Hilton III • Hailing from San Francisco, he earned a master’s degree from Harvard University and a doctorate from BYU. Hilton is a professor of religious education at the Provo school and has written several books and online courses.

Richard P. Kaufusi • Born in Tonga, he earned degrees from BYU and the University of Utah. Kaufusi served on the boards of Catholic Community Services and Primary Children’s Hospital.

G. Sheldon Martin • With degrees in political science, mental health counseling and behavioral health, he has worked for the church for 21 years and serves as director of member insights in its Priesthood and Family Department.

Steve K. Mutombo • Born in the Democratic Republic of Congo, he works as a financial consultant for a Salt Lake City firm.

Rogelio Osuna • Born in Mexico, he was with Goldman Sachs for 10 years and now works for the church’s Missionary Department supporting international missionary training centers.

Walter G. Queiroz Jr. • A native of Brazil, he oversees a mining company in Brazil and a commercial janitorial company in Utah.

Anthony R. Sweat • The chair of BYU’s department of church history and doctrine, he is also a prominent Latter-day Saint artist.

Clinton E. Udy • A regional director of the church’s Seminaries and Institutes of Religion, he earned degrees from Idaho State University and Utah State University.

Parker Aaron Walbeck • He operates an online course and YouTube channel called Full Time Filmmaker, teaching video production and social media marketing. Walbeck also runs a faith-based YouTube channel and Instagram account, sharing Latter-day Saint conversion stories and video edits of church leaders’ talks.

Kazuhiko Yamashita: Born in Japan, he is an emeritus general authority Seventy who teaches Japanese at BYU.
