Letter: Do members of Congress earn temple recommends?

(Francisco Kjolseth | Tribune file photo) The sun rises on the temple of the LDS Church on the first day of General Conference in Salt Lake City on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2019.

I read the article about the new LDS temple recommend questions.

Of particular interest to me was the question, “Do you support or promote any teachings, practices or doctrine contrary to those of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?”

While this revision certainly provides more latitude than the previous “support, affiliate with or agree with any group or individual,” I still wonder how any of our fine state’s representatives in Washington are granted a temple recommend.

Possibly I don’t understand the teachings of Jesus and his compassion for all beings? Or the rigor of the temple recommend interview process?
