Letter: American people elected Trump? Not so fast, Chris Stewart.

(Rick Egan | The Salt Lake Tribune) U.S. Rep. Chris Stewart speaks during a news conference about the National Suicide Prevention Hotline Improvement Act being signed into law. Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2018.

In the Sept. 7 Tribune, Rep. Chris Stewart jumped on the right wing’s outrage bandwagon in reaction to the as-yet unknown Trump administration staffer who was highly critical of Donald Trump and his fitness to lead, in a by-now-infamous New York Times op-ed.

In condemnation of the Times column’s anonymous author, Stewart tweets that “The American people elected Donald Trump as our president and they should be trusted.”

No, Mr. Stewart. The Electoral College elected Donald Trump.

The American people — by nearly 3 million votes — elected Hillary Clinton. It is they who should have been trusted.
