Cher to perform at The Viv in April

Pop legend and movie star Cher is coming back to Salt Lake City.

The 73-year-old performer — who has an Oscar, a Grammy, an Emmy and a Kennedy Center Honors among her many accolades — will bring her “Here We Go Again” tour to the Vivint Smart Home Arena on Tuesday, April 28, 2020, tour organizers announced Monday.

Cher’s setlist for this tour includes songs from her 2018 album “Dancing Queen,” a tribute to the band ABBA that coincided with her appearance in the movie “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again,” in which she covered ABBA’s hit “Fernando.” On past tour stops, she has also performed songs from her duet days with ex-husband Sonny Bono, like “The Beat Goes On” and “I Got You Babe,” and such solo hits as “Gypsys, Tramps and Thieves,” “If I Could Turn Back Time” and her mega-selling “Believe.”

The concert comes more than 15 years after the last time Cher performed in Salt Lake City: a 2005 show in the same building, back when it was called the Delta Center.

Cher won an Academy Award for playing Loretta Castorini, an Italian-American widow finding love in the 1987 romance “Moonstruck.” She won a Grammy in 2000 in the Best Dance Recording category for “Believe.” Her 2003 TV special “Cher: The Farewell Tour” received an Emmy for outstanding variety, music or comedy special.

Cher received the Kennedy Center Honors in 2018. A Broadway musical depicting her career, “The Cher Show,” opened on Broadway in 2018 and closed this August; star Stephanie J. Block won a Tony for playing Cher.

The opening act for the “Here We Go Again” tour is guitarist and record producer Nile Rodgers and his band, Chic, which recorded the disco hits “Le Freak” and “Good Times.”

Tickets for Cher’s show at The Viv go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. at Ticketmaster.com. The presale, for Citi card members, begins Tuesday.
