Letter: One has to wonder what drives Utah leaders’ incessant quest to target the LGBTQ community

(Francisco Kjolseth | The Salt Lake Tribune) The Utah Capitol is pictured on President’s Day, Monday, Feb. 16, 2026.

To the Legislature and Gov. Cox:

For the sixth year in a row, it seems one of your top priorities is to attack people who don’t ask more than the freedom to be who they are, love who they love and find a comfortable, safe place to pee.

I can only assume that you don’t know or wish to know any trans, nonbinary or other queer souls, let alone make the effort to befriend them. If that’s the case, you really need to get out into the world more.

If, on the other hand, it’s just about scoring political points, there are even more harmless targets for your performative cruelty.

Go kick a puppy.
