Letter: Most Utahns have had nothing but praise for mail-in voting. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

(Rick Egan | The Salt Lake Tribune) A voter drops his ballot in the vote-by-mail ballot drop box at the Salt Lake County Government Center on Monday, Oct. 19, 2020.

Here we go again! The Utah Legislature is considering House Bill 479, which is intended to repeal the ability of the citizens of Utah to vote by mail-in ballots.

This, in spite of the fact that, of 2.1 million ballots cast in the last election, only one instance was found of a noncitizen registered.

This Legislature was elected by voters of Utah who expect their representatives to support their views on matters up for discussion. Instead, Utah lawmakers appear intent on following the MAGA party line.

I fail to understand how making it difficult, or even impossible, for people to vote will make America great again. It seems to me that disenfranchising military personnel, disabled people, the elderly workers who work long shifts, or those without transportation, who must get to the polls in person in order to vote, is simply depriving them of their civil rights.

Most Utahns have had nothing but praise for mail-in voting. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!
