Letter: Would a Trump Hotel in Temple Square fly?

(Francisco Kjolseth | The Salt Lake Tribune) Holiday lights illuminate Temple Square in Salt Lake City on Friday, Nov. 28, 2025.

I had a dream recently, which woke me up.

The dream was that, in the past, Donald J. Trump had talked his way into becoming mayor of Salt Lake City. He used bullying and threats to say bad things about the LDS Church if they did not sell him land next to or on Temple Square for him to build a big, gold Trump Hotel like the one in Las Vegas.

In your opinion would this be a good thing or a bad thing?

If he could do this as mayor, he certainly could make greater threats as U.S. president. Maybe he could demand that in return for not going after LDS Church’s tax exempt status, it would need to turn over all its genealogy records, so his people could feed this into A.I. to better track people.

He could, and maybe is, making similar threats to Apple and Google to get access to their/our information!

Is this really that far fetched? I think not.
