Letter: America’s embrace of extrajudicial killing as part of drug enforcement is indefensible

(AP Illustration / Peter Hamlin)

Am I correct assuming there is no death penalty associated with simply transporting illegal drugs?

Am I right due process is required as part of our criminal justice system in order to establish illegal drug dealing? What happened to innocent until proven guilty in a court of law?

What has happened to the long-standing drug investigative strategy of capturing drug dealers alive in order to convince them to testify against targets higher up the line?

Why then has President Trump permitted the instantaneous murder now of 105 alleged drug transporters in their boats off the coast of Venezuela?

Not only that, but an indisputable war crime by killing remaining incapacitated dealers clinging to the remains of their overturned boat after being blown out of the water following the murderous assault by an American fighter jet.
