Letter: Think of all the freedoms that have come under attack in America in 2025

As I reflect on the past year, I am alarmed at the number of freedoms that have come under attack by the current regimes in Washington and Utah. These freedoms include:

  • Freedom to question or criticize elected officials.
  • Freedom to know what our elected officials are doing.
  • Freedom from having our vote diluted by gerrymandering.
  • Freedom to choose what books we read.
  • Freedom to access scientific information and vaccines.
  • Freedom to learn about our country’s history.
  • Freedom to implement standards of equity in the workplace, government and universities.
  • Freedom to go about our daily activities without fear of being abducted by masked federal agents.
  • Freedom to protect our private information from inclusion in secret government databases.
  • Freedom from having other people’s religious beliefs forced upon us.
  • Actually, I’m not sure which is more alarming: the rapid erosion of these freedoms, or the fact that so many Americans are either unaware of what’s going on or don’t care.
