Letter: By capitulating on the shutdown, Democrats showed their true colors

I hope the Democratic Party remembers Nov. 4. It will probably be the last time that major races will be won by Democrats as they gave away whatever hope those of us who have been members of the party had for democracy to succeed.

You capitulated after standing for principles that affect most Americans. You showed your true colors: That you are unable to stand for principles for any length of time and just as we were beginning to believe there was hope you snatched it away from us.

You wonder why so many people don’t vote — here’s why: Sens. Kaine, Durbin, Fetterman, Shaheen, Hassan, King, Masto and Rosen.

You don’t care about the big picture (which is the picture of all Americans).

What the party leadership says and what they do are not the same. We can’t believe you any more. Enjoy Nov. 4, 2025, because 2026 will not be nice. You have just made it clear that you want people to “do as I say, not as I do.” Sorta like the Republican mantra.
