Letter: Instead of raising taxes, fill the coffers by ticketing Utah’s scofflaws

(Leah Hogsten | The Salt Lake Tribune ) Car and bus taillights and headlights draw long red and white lights during evening traffic patterns along State Street in Salt Lake City in 2019.

I’ve learned that the folks at the top of our city and county governments are proposing to raise taxes again this year.

I propose that traffic officers be hired to enforce existing street codes. Not just to ticket speeders, but also all those people who are running red lights and stop signs. The money generated from those citations would more than cover the expenses of Salt Lake City’s flashy remodel and make travel through our city and county safer.
