Letter: It’s important to understand what antifa is — and isn’t

President Trump recently issued an executive order targeting antifa as a “domestic terrorist organization.” The fact is it’s not a single organization, but includes left-wing activists with the common goal of fighting against America becoming a fascist nation. There is no central body or associated membership structure.

Fascism is defined as a political agenda pursuing a repressive autocratic government. It makes sense Trump would mislabel and disparage antifa demonstrators, since they negatively impact his concerted effort to institute a fascist regime. Although not as active as antifa protestors, the vast majority of loyal Americans, both Democratic and Republican, are against inaugurating a king-like despot to abolish the protections of the U.S. Constitution.

As long as antifa protestors engage in nonviolent demonstrations in accordance with the First Amendment, the only ones who should be concerned about their activism are the real domestic terrorists attempting to install a fascist dictatorship.
