As a Salt Lake City councilmember and a lifelong advocate for community-driven planning, I believe no conversation about our city’s future is complete without hearing directly from the people most affected. That’s especially true on the west side.
Our neighborhoods — Westpointe, Jordan Meadows, Rose Park, Fairpark, and beyond — are vibrant, diverse, and full of promise. But they also bear the brunt of many challenges: air pollution, increasing traffic, a rising cost of living and rapid industrial growth.
That’s why I’m urging every resident, worker, and business owner in our community to participate in the Northwest Quadrant Baseline Survey now underway.
This survey, led by the Utah Inland Port Authority in partnership with Salt Lake City, is more than a questionnaire. It’s your chance to weigh in on how development in the Northwest Quadrant is impacting our daily lives — whether it’s through job access, infrastructure, housing or the environment.
Your feedback will guide real planning decisions — decisions about traffic, air quality, sustainability and economic opportunity. It will help us identify solutions that protect what we love about our community while also ensuring future growth is responsible, equitable and community-informed.
We know the stakes are high. But this is our chance to lead from the front.
As your elected representative, I’ve consistently pushed for inclusive, transparent processes that prioritize community voice.
This survey is one way we’re holding ourselves accountable to that promise.
It takes just a few minutes to complete and is available in English and Spanish.
You can take it online at inlandportauthority.utah.gov/baselinesurvey, or find it at your local library, rec center or neighborhood event.
Our communities deserve more than to be “consulted” after decisions are made — we deserve to shape those decisions from the start. Let’s make sure our voices are heard.
