Letter: Behold Mike Lee: The social media sycophant extraordinaire

(Eric Lee | The New York Times) Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, talks with reporters at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, June 17, 2025.

Stop what you’re doing right now and take a look at “Based” Mike Lee’s X account (x.com/BasedMikeLee). He’s on it morning to night, posting like it’s his full-time job. While you’re working, raising kids, serving your church and community, or running errands, Lee is prodigiously grinding out “based” X posts, striving to prove his unflinching loyalty to the Bad Boy of Bedminster.

Being a U.S. senator used to be full-time work. Now that Republicans have handed the Senate’s power over to America’s most ethical golfer, there isn’t much real business to do. Lee uses his now-open schedule to post with all his heart, might, mind and strength to sustain the felonious messiah of Mar-a-Lago. At this point, Mike Lee is less a Senator and more of a social-media influencer who makes passionate, unrequited fealty to our Dear Leader.
