Letter: Stuart Adams has shown us who he is. He should resign — post haste.

(Chris Samuels | The Salt Lake Tribune) Senate President Stuart Adams, R-Layton, is shown in South Salt Lake, Friday, March 28, 2025.

Utah Senate President Stuart Adams has shown us exactly who he is — and it’s not someone who should hold public office.

He reportedly intervened to weaken Utah’s age of consent laws, shielding his 18-year-old relative from jail time and sex offender status after being charged with raping a 13-year-old. This wasn’t legislation for the people — it was legislation for a predator in his own family.

And this isn’t an isolated case of bad judgment. Adams has a pattern:

  • He helped kill the independent redistricting reforms Utahns voted for.
  • He funneled nearly a million dollars in pandemic funds into a shady hydroxychloroquine deal.
  • He attended legislative sessions while knowingly COVID-positive.
  • He failed to act on sexual harassment in the Legislature until media pressure forced his hand.
  • He’s repeatedly skirted campaign finance transparency.
  • And yes — he claims to be a man of faith. If this is what “Latter-day values” look like under the dome, we’ve got a bigger problem.

This man doesn’t represent us. He represents himself, his cronies, and the predators he protects. The people of Utah deserve better than a power-drunk politician who rewrites laws to protect rapists and consolidate control.

Stuart Adams should resign — today. And if the Utah Legislature has any conscience left, they’ll demand it too.
