Letter: Please make this alumnus proud and stick with the bold “U”

(Francisco Kjolseth | The Salt Lake Tribune) Students line up for graduation photos at the block U on the University of Utah campus on Thursday, May 2, 2024.

I see “The U” is changing its logo from the solid U to two intertlocking U’s. I’ve never warmed up to the interlocking U’s. To me, they look rather wimpy. I love the solid U. It represents boldness, strength and makes a statement. The font for the interlocking U’s just seems weak. When the U is attempting to build its representation with the rest of the country, why not be bold about it? How can you expect anyone to give you respect if you present yourself by almost apologizing about your name?

I agree with what they said about the U of Miami trying to usurp the spotlight with their U-type logo. I’ve never understood why they went that direction, but they did. Instead of letting them bully the original U, stand up to them and show them how powerful we can be!

Please make this alumnus proud and continue with the bold U. I proudly wear clothing that has the bold U logo everywhere I go here in Texas. I could never purchase clothing with the interlocking U’s.
