Letter: Sen. Curtis seems very concerned with our debt crisis. His actions say otherwise.

(C-SPAN) U.S. Sen. John Curtis, R-Utah, makes his first Senate floor speech at the Capitol in Washington on Wednesday, May 14, 2025.

I have written to Sen. John Curtis multiple times with my concerns over the years including, recently, the cuts to funding of NPR and PBS. Here is part of his response:

“Difficult decisions lie ahead, including targeted reductions in federal spending. While I recognize that funding changes can create uncertainty, we must confront our debt crisis now to ensure the long-term health of our economy and government services.”

One might assume from this that he is very concerned with our debt crisis, yet he voted for a bill that increases that debt by 3.9 trillion dollars, according to the Congressional Budget Office. He even included this as his “high of the week” in his weekly email. It gives large tax cuts to wealthy individuals, and takes away needed programs, including basics like food and health care from needy Americans.

I am disappointed and disillusioned with our current government, and our leadership in particular. Utah needs representation that is true to their word and consistent.
