Letter: Utah student’s drive to make a difference gives me hope

(Trent Nelson | The Salt Lake Tribune) Staff members of the Highland High Rambler at Highland High School in Salt Lake City on Wednesday, May 14, 2025.

Regarding: The Tribune op-ed, “Older generations may see Gen Z as lazy, but this Utah student says they care.”

Thank you for this inspiring story! It’s encouraging to hear about young people who are concerned about the problems in our country and our world, especially climate change. I worry about the world we’re leaving for our children, grandchildren and even great-grandchildren. With these young people coming up my mind is a bit eased, though I’m embarrassed that we’re not doing enough to leave them with a better environment.

I also hear about many young people in college studying environmental issues, from the scientific side to the political side, and it gives me hope.
