Letter: A “Tribute” to the administration — for the post-Trump era — lest we forget what it wrought

Never has a president dominated the daily news cycle like the current officeholder. Still, a time will come when memories fade, and we will look back on his tenure and ask what constitutes a fitting tribute. Therefore, I offer the following lines.

Tribute

When it comes to monuments

The Washington Monument

Is most monumental

Just as the Lincoln Memorial

Is most memorable

Among memorials.

In 2025 we have no Washington

Nor do we have a Lincoln,

But another has risen up

To occupy their high office.

It is not too soon for us to talk

Of remembering him

For his words and deeds

Loudly proclaim his name

Deserves to be engraved

From sea to shining sea

Upon landfills

And prisons

And sewers.

Lest we forget.
