Everyone, please wake up! Recent happenings are affecting all of us — rich, poor, black, white, male, female, other, Republican, Democrat, other — all of us! Please, pay attention!
Have you tried to contact Social Security lately? I have. It’s not pretty. Two weeks later I still don’t have my 1099 from them. With taxes pending, that’s a problem. I just hope I get my benefit payment this month.
Health and Human Services oversees our health. With an almost 15% cut, can they still? FDA checks our food to keep it safe, CDC does research on diseases and how to combat those diseases. What if you or I get food poisoning, cancer, or some other awful disease? There’s too few people now to stop it from happening!
What if you or I need justice from the courts, and what if our judge has been threatened or, worse yet, bought off? Or if our attorney or law firm is being sued and threatened — as is happening right now on the national stage? If the executive branch succeeds in violating those due process rights “guaranteed” by the Constitution, what happens now? Can we evermore get a fair trial?
What if someone greedy decides they want my house and I will roll over and give it to them? Fat chance! And fat chance the administration can expect other countries to roll over and become part of the U.S. That happened in the late 1930s and the result was a many-year bloody war. I don’t want a war. Do you?
Utah has always sponsored, loved and taken in refugees from other countries. And now the administration threatens to withhold funds from those who practice inclusivity of other diverse peoples — so maybe we can’t do that anymore.
I’m afraid, and — now — I hope you are too.
