Letter: Given Utah’s new law, a little creativity should ensure pride support doesn’t flag

(Francisco Kjolseth | The Salt Lake Tribune) The Utah Pride Center sponsors a protest at the Utah Capitol over HB77, a bill that bans pride flags from Utah schools and government property, on the last day of the Legislative session, Friday, March 7, 2025.

Now that HB77 is law, I want to point out to all the supportive educators and public servants this provision in its text: “‘Flag’ means a usually rectangular piece of fabric with a specific design that symbolizes a location, government entity, or cause.”

Please use the creativity and diversity so well exemplified by the symbol of the rainbow to show your pride and allyship in every colorful shape that doesn’t match this definition to obey this law.
